Is a 160 degree stat good for my 350?

My car in 98 degree days runs over 220 eventually. I just put in a 160 stat which I think might actually hurt the car more than 180, is this true? I will run the car like this for a few more days, if it doesn't cool down I guess I'll get the 180 stat. HELP. OH everything else on the the cooling system is in order New radiator, water pump works, cap works, timing right, 2 fans work, but it still manages over 220 in traffic

since you have 2 fans i am guessing u have a 350 tpi?

the key to cooling is to make the fans come on earlier..

your right some would say the 160 is good but i would just stick with a 180 thermostat, unless you can find a 170.

to make the passengers side fan come on earlier you will need a fan switch.

get the one that comes on at 200 and off at 185

some say lower engine temps will give you bad gas mileage, but better engine performance.

i say that just keeping the engine around 190 to 200 is alot better than 220 or higher, and you get more performance and keep the gas mileage and the computer works right.

Exactly. That 160* aint doin squat without having the fans come on earlier, stock rating is 227* or so. For computer controlled cars 180* I hear won't cause computer problems.
