overheating/front windshield fogging up

Hey folks
Here's the story
I just put in a new motor (350) & tranny, had a 305 (had no heat problems before this).
One of the heater lines was loose, tightened it up, not leaking anymore.
Yesterday I drove to work & it started to overheat, it was a cool morning.
when I put the motor in I also put a new 190 degree thermostat.
i get steam coming onto the windshield, none of the heater hoses are leaking.
I am wondering if my heater core is going? but i havent saw any water on the floor.
the fan comes on immediately.
the car is running at about 220 normally
Any ideas/suggestions
thanxs
Shawn

Steam inside the windshield?
Sounds like heater core time to me.
Mine did that for months before it actually dumped any coolant on the floor.
Heater coes are pretty cheap now at most any auto parts store, and thirdgen's cores are not as difficult to replace as many think they are. I put mine off for a long time, because of the horror stories I'd heard about how difficult it was, but in reality, it's just not too bad. Easier with the top of the dash out, but possible with it in as well....I've done it both ways.
My wife's S10 core was actually a lot tougher to swap out than the one in my RS.
Don't wait too long, or you'll be mopping up the green mess in the passenger-side footwell.

I know when i first got it all together, I didnt have one of the heater core hoeses tight & it dumped the green crude on the floor (i have to replace almost all the interior anyways) but since then it hasnt been leaking at all & getting hot, almost overheated last Sunday.
Im wondering if the 350 just isnt running hotter than the 305 too

If it is your heater core, I suggest replacing it ASAP. Since anti-freeze is fairly toxic, breathing it can do major damage if you don't take care of it right away.

well I bypassed the heater core tonight & drove it, the temp never went over 220 and of course no steam on the windshield.

Mine is currently bypassed as well.
Before winter I'll have to swap it out, though.
Never really gets too cold here though.
