running a little hot
my camaro has (i believe) a completely stock cooling system. The only thing I have replaced is the airdam. At highway speeds it seems to run fine, around town or idling it gets up to 240, which is more than I'm comfortable with. If I turn the A/C on and the second fan kicks in (both work at the moment) it cools down to 220, but its still too warm for me. I'm thinking wither water pump or maybe it needs new water/antifreeze? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Well, I'd start with the simplest things first. It sounds like you have check to make sure that all the bits are there. Next I'd say put new coolant and thermostat in, and see what happens.
Another possibility is a blockage somewhere. Go to your local parts shop and there should be at least one kind of cooling system cleaner. From what I have heard, the foaming type seems to work well.

Actually, for a stock thirdgen, that is -right- where it should be. Warm yes, but that is how these cars were designed. I have done serveral things to adjust my average operating temperatures, here's a basic rundown:
modine aluminum radiator
flow cooler HO water pump
50/50 glycol mix
160* t stat
third cooling fan (pushing) in front of the condensor grid, 900 cfm
Custom relay setup, all 3 fans are on when the key is in the ignition
15 lb radiator cap
That's about all I can think of right now, I might be leaving some stuffs out. Are you planning on coming to the next M/A TGO gathering/BBQ? Check it out over in the M/A forum!

i run 220 normal temp when driving on the highway.
in traffic it runs at 220 for awhile and then creeps up to like 230 after a couple minutes of stop and go traffic, so i simply hot my manula fan switch and turn on the passengers side fan, the drivers side fan should be on already.
in my 1988 formula 350, i put in a 180 thermostat, a fan switch that turns on like 200 and off at 185; and my car ran about 185 - 190, and that helped with performance alittle...

I wonder why mine runs so hot too? I am guessing that since i rubuilt my engine, i took off my header wrap and now i am fighting the battle with high temps as MDFoumula. Do you guys think header wrap would help us here?

. Not sure about your car though, doesn't that wrap stuff void header warranties? ES, you and me think on the same level, I'm thinking a new Be-Cool radiator, aluminum water pump, and 180 degree stat, but I need to wait until I've got the money to do it all. At least then I'll have the cooling setup to support any more mods I want to do. Yeah I definately want to come to the gathering, just have to see if I can get home that weekend (off at school). Have we figured out which park yet? I want to see that blue Iroc. Thanks for the help everyone. Peace
