Gettin' Hot

Help

I have a 92 Camaro RS with the V6. It just started getting hotter than normal (normal is about 190). It has gone from 190 to 230 on hot days at idle. When the AC or heat is on it cools off and the fan is running. I cannot get the fan to run without the heat or AC on first. What is the normal temp or does it depend on the thermostat? What is the first thing I should check or replace?

GM turns stock cooling fans on at 224-230 degrees F. I believe the 3.1 V6 cooling fan is operated by the ECM and not a fan switch. The ECM may also turn the cooling fan on anytime the a/c is on or my be operated be an A/C high side pressure switch.

I would wire up the fan to run all the time. Or at least have a switch so you can turn them on.

oh yeah , check the link in my sig for more info on the Thirdgen Nationals '03.
