Ok, where's the leak?.

I just replaced the heater hoses on my 87 Formula (they were rotted out). Had a goofy setup on the hose from the water pump. some sort of split in the rear of the bay to the intake and the heater. Couldn't find a exact match so I pieced one together using the stock spliter. Now I have a big leak from the rear of the moter. I checked for leaks at all three connections and they are bone dry but underneath the moter it's almost a constant stream of coolant about a 1/8 of an inch. I have no idea where it's comming from! Any ideas? Other wise there are no problems. Is is possible that the intake gasket is just bad in the very back? I haven't noticed any oder in the exhaust.

a leak coming from the back of the engine could be from one of the two heater core hoses on the passengers side firewall, i had one of them leaking on me, and cause massive smoking and coolant loss.

I replaced the heater hoses... did you have that set up on you fromula with the hose that ran from the heater core to the top of the front of the block with a split in the line to the rear of the intake? I thought that might be the cluprit but it's dry too. I guess I should take some pics to show. It's really driving me up a wall. I drove it the same distance after my frist post with the heater off and so far no leak... lets keep our fingers crossed. Never the less it's gonna get cold here in the next couple of weeks and well I when without heat last year when the cheap(well I shouldn't say that cause the part was $360 just for the part) heater core went on my POS toyota and well It's just too cold ! I had to defrost my windsheild with a damn hair dryer!

i have never really looked behind the intake/engine...

my grandfather just tighten up the two hose clamps on the heater core and said they were alittle loose.. and then my coolant loss and steam from under the hood stopped...

no, unfortunatly that's not the problem. The clamps are all pretty tight and there is no sign of the leak arount them. I was told to look at the "freeze pulgs" but I don't know where they are. Also the easyist answer... maybe the block is cracked.

I have found that the only time there is a leak is when the heater is turned on so that may also be the heater core? but I get no steam on the inside and I only smell coolent when the windows are open (while there is a leak)

Wierd stuff

Gotta get my TA back! this formula is draining my wallet!
