Overheating Problem
Overheating Problem
Well guys, i had a small radiator leak by the water neck and hose and so i replaced the thermo(w/ a 180* from autozone notthe cheap one the oem approved one) put on a new gasket w/ sealent and filled up the coolant with some 50/50mix. Well my car used to run at a constant 220 degrees and never really went much over. The guy i bought the car off of took out the computer and carbed it. It also has to switches on the inside forthe fans but dont seem to work. Well sicne replaing the thermo the car gets almost into the 250-260 zone and then the fan will kick on. and it will run around 225. I dont want this it never did this before i replaced the thermo. The thermo is in right with the point up. What could the problem be? ANd y is the fan kicking on so late ? thanks

Did you bleed the air out. Air pockets can cause some grief till they are out. Also if the system isn't pressurizing it will run hot. Check the cap,etc and make sure the system is tight. When it starts to cool does the recovery bottle start to fill. You could just need more coolant if the system was opened.

You need to also make the fans come on earlier. You said you are running a carb. and 180* stat. Have both fans on by 190* in my opinion.
