WTF! Temp gauge fluctuating!

I was overheating for a while and replaced my 160 thermostat with a new 160 thermo and it was back to normal temp for a while. Now it redlines and cools down again in a matter of minutes.Should I put a 180 stat?I dont have a coolant leak and my fan is working fine.Any advice is appreciated.

It shouldnt redline with any temp thermostat. you have another problem besides the thermostat.

typically you should run a 50-50 mix of coolant and water but if you dont have one get the air dam that it seems like most 3rd gens are missing i got one and it dropped my engine temp about 50*

He said he changed the thermostat and it still did it so i doubt it would be the thermostat.
