Any service required on belt clutch fan?

On the Belt driven fans they have a clutch system on the shaft that I believe allows the fan to slip if the shaft is cold and not-slip if the shaft is warm. I assume this is to help fuel economy. Does this mechinism need to be cleaned periodically (WD-40?) to run properly?

thanks,
phil

If it's a thermal clutch, it 'makes' the fan spin hard when the temp sensor on the front of the clutch gets to a certain temperature. The clutch slips when it's cold. It has it's own fluid inside, no service required--just replacement when it stops working correctly.
