kinda curious..

You know how after a drive and you shut the car off and your walking away you can here the engine popping? What causes that?Is it boiling fluids or the metal stressing or what?I've always wondered. It doesnt take my RS long at all.A 5 minute trip will get it popping.

i think it's just the metal expanding and contracting from the temperature changes. I don't think it will ever cause a problem though, seeing as every car I've ever seen in my life does it.

I'd be more willing to bet that it is the exhaust system cooling down after being driven and getting HOT. the only problem I have ever seen from this was in a '82 cavavier, that thing went through exhaust manifolds like they were candy. the guy at the dealership said that it was a design flaw but they had no plans to correct it. they would just keep replacing it until the warrantee ran out then it would be my problem. nice HUH ????
