6-speed tranny cooler....?
6-speed tranny cooler....?
hey guys,
ive got the t-56 swap done on my car, but since the tranny has been freshly rebuilt (0 miles) i want to take really good care of it from day one.
SO, i can get a B&M supercooler (auto tranny cooler) at a really good price from a friend. is a tranny cooler overkill on a manual tranny for the difference it will make? or is it still a good idea if i can easily afford it?
thanks
Damien

Im pretty sure installing a tranny cooler on manual isnt possible. Ive never seen a manual with lines coming out of it and even if it was there its not neccesary, Manual tranmissions run a lot cooler than automatic trannys do, Just do a search and see what kind of fluid the guys running t56 are using, and avoid powershifting and your tranny will live very long. Hope this helps.
There was an article in one of the Vette magazines describing the process...you need an electric pump to move the fluid out of the trans, thru the cooler, and back to the trans. Unlike an auto trans, the T56 has no internal pump.
You'd replace the drain and fill plugs, routing your output line from the drain plug hole and your return line to the fill hole.
Unless you run the Pony Express or similar long distance high speed racing, it's overkill in a big way. Just use good fluid, change it regularly, and the trans will outlive the rest of the car.
