The replacement for the older R-12 is R 134A. To do a conversion you will hear many different opinions. The correct way is to replace the hoses with the newer barrier style, the orifice and of course the dessicant/accumulator. The system should be flushed, evacuated and then new oil(PAG) needs to be introduced that will be compatible with the 134. Thats the right way to do it. Stop in at a dealer, GM has some technical bulletins on doing conversions to the newer refrigerants and they may let you get a copy. it's one of those pay now or pay later deals. If you skimp and try to get away with one of those kit's you see you'll just have problems down the road.
