Fan acting weird and also temp question
Fan acting weird and also temp question
I have a 180 thermo and a fan switch that kicks the fan on at 200 and off at 185. I have an odd problem with my fan, it seems to go on at 200 though im not sure it seems like it goes on a little earlier, the thing is it never goes off, the temp will be a little below 180 and the fan will still be going. A little more info is that i do not have the switch for the fan in the head anymore, my new motor didnt have the right hole for it so i had to put it in the front of my intake. Another thing is that the coolant hose that normally goes into the back of the intake, i had to put in the front becasue that didnt have the hole either. Could the temp difference be a few degrees off, a few degrees hotter where the fan switch is then where my temp gauge sender is in the head. Also this might be a stupid question but how often is the fan supposed to run? before this car i had a 6 cyl grand prix and that thing ran like ice, the fan wouldnt even attempt to go on unless you were idling for like 10 minutes. Thanks all help is appreciated.

when my car did that i just wired it to a curcut that was on when the key was on. so when my key is the fan turns on and it runs around 180 all the time b/c the fan never turns off i dont see were it would hurt it to run all the time. mine was just the oposite it didnt come on at 200.
I HAD A PROBLEM WITH HOOKING UP THE FAN DIRECTLY....WINTER!
MY CAR WOULD TAKE FOREVER TOO WARM UP AND SOMETIMES WOULD NEVER REACH A GOOD TEMP. SO IT WOULD BLOW WARM AIR I AM IN NYC AND IT CAN GET REALLLLLL COLD UP HERE. I GUESS ITS GOOD IF YOU LIVE LIKE IN FLORIDA

sounds like the temp the fan switch is reading is not close enough to 185 to turn the fan off. i thought about using that fan switch with my 180 stat and i knew it probably was going to not get close enough to turn the fan off so i left the stock fan switch in and wired in a manual switch.
