Antifreeze shooting out

Ok here's the problem. I took the car out for the first time last night since the motor swap. The radiator hose going to the water neck blew off from the pressure and spewed coolant over my engine. Does anyone know the cause of this??

It's a brand new 195* t-stat, new aluminum high flow water pump. I think it may be excessive pressure or a restriction. But I'm not sure. Any ideas on this??

Is there anything I can use to seal my over flow bottle? It has a crack in it near the tubing where the hose connects to it. I don't have another car so I can't go and grab another right now

first of all, get yourself a new overflow canister because i don;t really think you could sucessfully seal those stock ones.
second, i would personally run a 160* or 170* thermostat.
thirdly, you can drill holes in the thermostat housing. drill several small ones (approx. 1/8") all around the housing. this will reduce hot pockets and MAY bleed off enough pressure...

thanx for the reply :hail:

The 195* t-stat is not what I wanted. I wanted at least a 180* but my g/f grabbed the wrong one and someone else put it in while I wasn't there

You say to drill holes into the housing? Hmmmm

Any idea what would cause the restriction??

the thing is that the stock or any thermostat for that matter doesn't open up to let the cooling mixture flow untill a defined temp...
so pressure builds up and the motor developes hot pockets...
both of these problems we can do without, especially with our third gen motors that love to run cool.

You know what's funny though. I never had this problem with the other motor. I used to beat on that thing (the motor loved it). This just all started yesterday after the new motor was dropped in with better parts

1. Hose wasn't tight or the radiator cap is bad--replace the cap if you are uncertain. The cap is their to release excess pressure into the overflow.

2. Having a high flow pump makes the need for a tight hose connection and working cap more important. 195 stat is merely your minimum temp the engine will run at. My engine likes a 180 stat.

3. A plastic welder(prettly slick if you can get your hands on one), but the old plastic is probably the cause of the break--it's brittle. A glue I got at walmart called "plastic welder" or something like that. Both are a temp fix, find a new or good used one(ebay).

Thanx 82

Well the rad cap is new but I do have another one I could try. I did tighten down the hose already. i'll give it a try though

Do you know how to adjust the timing without a timing light?? I can't remember if it's supposed ot be turned counter clockwise or clockwise
