Water pump/broken mounting hole
Water pump/broken mounting hole
Ok, this ENTIRE weekend I had been installing a waterpump on my 88 Camaro with a 2.8 V6. The idiots at GM decided that torx headed bolts were the smartest thing to put in there. 4 of them seized and I had to break away the pump. In doing this, one of the ears of the (timing cover?) broke off. I had no idea this was cheap white metal. So there is no thread to screw into. The top portion of the threads are there, but the bottom aren't.
The pump will still seal against there no problem, but there's notning to hold that one area snug. I already piled it up with sealer and this stuff that is supposed to be like liquid metal. I'm hoping it will hold. I'm going to start it today.
Question is, how thick is that cover? Can I drill slightly into it to seat a self-drilling screw? I really don't feel like taking it all apart again to replace it because it's more trouble than the car is worth. Thanks for any replies!
