plastic piece of junk

you guys know that piece of plastic that mounts to the bottom of the radiator support, hangs down below the front clip and is supposed to direct air up and through the radiator? Well, my car was missing that piece. i figured i needed to get one but i was wondering if it was a one size fits all piece or if different model cars came with different sized ones? I got one from a junkyard but it barely hangs down below my front clip, the one on my berlinetta hangs way down below the front clip. wtf?

Different ones for different noses!

I gave up on trying to get a junkyard piece to fit mine, and bought new from the dealer, and IT didn't fit right, either. ( I think my front end was replaced)

I finally bought some plastic rain gutter from Home Depot and cut and fiddled with it and made a deeper one that is more sturdy. it makes a hell of a noise if you scrape it on driveways, so it has succeeded in making me more careful.

BTW, they are absolutely critical on firebirds because they have zero grille. I'm not sure if the Camaro grilles actually flow air to the radiator or not, but if they do, they will probably not be as critical in that area.

Good luck

yeah, i know my nose has been replaced. My car was wrecked in the front passenger side before i bought it and the grille, wheels, dash, ground effects and stickers are all iroc pieces but my car is an RS. Anyway, when i start restoring my car, im going to replace all that back with the RS stuff. So i should just get all the pieces off of the same car. thanks for the help man.

The piece you're talking bout is called an air dam. Its purpose is to create a low pressure area behind it which essentially then PULLS air through the radiator. You can pick one up from GM or some of the sponsors in the links above.

I believe the replacements are all the same size, however, if I'm not mistaken, there were slight differences in the sizes. My replacement seemed boxier than my stock one, but then again, riding around on Sportlines, the stock one was a lil worn out. Hope I answered your questions.
