Gauge not working

I assume you're referring to your temperature gauge. I would first check the sendsor on the drivers side of the head to make sure you didn't pull the wire loose, it just slips on the terminal and doesn't take much to dislodge it.

oh its in the head? guy at the parts store thought it would be the sensor next to the thermo housing. i played with that wire a bit and it threw a light and then started to idle kinda low then played with it a bit more and the light went out and it idled kinda high and hissed. played with it some more and now it doesnt hiss and it idles where it should. whats up with that? i didnt disconect it or anything just wiggled it.

That's your coolant temp sensor and it sends a signal to the ECM. If it acts up with you wiggling the wires, you either have a very loose connector or a wire thats broken and barely making contact. The sensor for the temp gage is mounted on the drivers side near the #1 sparkplug as JimJohn has said and it doesn't take much to cause that wire to fall of.
