Fan problems please read!

Hey guys I was changing my spark plugs and wires the other day when I noticed that my temp sensor for the dash was unplugged...plugged that in works fine

i also noticed this ground type prong thing by the starter

so i left that alone and took a drive

I noticed my fan wasnt coming on, so i decided to ground that wire and wahla it came on

I tried plugging it back into the fan switch in the head after further investigating, no go, not even when the engine was HOT

so i bought a new switch put it in, cleaned off the connector with sand paper, put the wiree back in the new fan switch

still no go

since i have to drive the car i wired up a manual ground switch inside the car...any ideas what this could be? it works fine when i ground the wire

Thanks guys!

The Temp sensor for the Guage in the dash is in the drivers side head between Cylinders #1 & #3

The Fan Switch is in the Passanger side head between Cylinders #6 & 8

There is also a temp sensor for the ECM located in the Front of the Intake manifold, just above the timing cover

and DustyWusty You might check the ECM temp sensor I mention Above. I think the ecm controls the fan turn on temp on a 1989 Bird, and if that sensor is bad, the ecm Dosen't know the engines operating temp so it won't turn the fan on.

Well, if its TBI, I don't think the ECU has any control over the fan (it would be a single electric fan)... On my brother's 1991 L03, there is just the fan switch in the pass cyl head that controls the fan. The spec for the fan to turn on (this is stock spec for a single electric fan setup) is around 220* (222 maybe?)..
