F*cking heater core
I was on my way home tonight and my front window started
to fog up.Then my son smelled something,Then I smelled it.
I turned on the interior light and I saw my freshly fleshed
coolant spilling on my new floor mats.I put that dammed
heater core in july of 2001.It was such a PITA to switch out.
I just put new coolant in last saturday.I am so PISSED.
Whats the best way to get coolant out of my carpet?
Thanks for listening

A shop vac will take most of the moisture out, then maybe a steam cleaner remove the residual antifreeze. Don't forget to do under the carpet as well - the insulation will soak up a lot of water.

Sorry to hear, hope it works out for you.
I never understood why the dont put the insulated heater core OUTSIDE of the interior of the vehicle.
About 4 years ago the core went out on my truck. Actually it took about a week for it to go. I smelled some fluid and knew right off what it was. But I put it off. One day I was pulling up in the driveway, turned off the truck, and splat everything just dropped.
I had a detail specialist do what he could to get it all out, but to this day the underneath portion of the carpet is still somewhat damp. The carpet on top though looks like nothing ever happened (Chevy truck carpet is very thick).
I noticed when I bought my camaro that the heater core had gone previously (he told me about it). It wasnt until recently that I noticed how big of a stain it really did leave (and how he must not have cared to clean it out asap). Looks like new carpet is the only answer at this point.

Keeping coolant out of the interior.....
I call that a heater core bypass....
, After moving to Florida and the heater core going bad, i decided to have to never worry about it again.....
As for cleaning....
To make sure to get all of it out, i used the following process
Wet area with water, put towel down for couple of days
Remove Towel
Wet area with water, put new towel down for couple of days
Remove Towel
Repeat process until you can't smell the coolant anymore, then follow the directions posted above and clean out all the moisture from the carpet, and if possible, use a blow dryer on the area to attempt to dry the area underneath the carpet so that it doesn't ruin the floor pan...
GM Engineering at it's best.....
