Blower motor

Anyone know if there is a more powerful ac/heat fan blower motor that replaces the stock one for a 1990 IROC Convertible. The factory one just doesnt cut it in a convertible.

There's not really a blower motor that blows too much harder. I replaced mine with a Seimens Westinghouse one from Autozone and it blew a little harder, but short of retrofitting some other kind of motor or maybe upping the power...

Thank You for the reply. I will head on over to AutoZone soon to replace it. Do you happen to know the part number..if not dont worry about it. The factory blower.................just blows in a convertible.

Again, thanks

Face it, we are stuck with some really crappy blowers in our cars, even the new ones aren't very good. Alot of the reason why our cars don't blow hard is the evaporator coil. It usually gets clogged up. Cleaning it out should help a bunch.

I tried retrofitting a blower motor from a 4th gen, and it can be done. It requires a thirdgen cage, and I also believe you have to reverse the wires so the fan spins in the opposite direction. You will just need to make some sort of plate that you can attach the compressor to. The plate needs to be 1/2 inch or so thick as to accomate the cage so it doesn't hit the back wall and make horrible noise.

Another reason why our cars don't blow hard is the way the air routes are routed. Due to the specific shape and size, the car tends to travel slowly.

Thanx sonar-un, I may give that a shot. I just wish it blew as hard as the one in my 96 Impala.

Now if I could get the darn vents to switch from defrost to vent I will be very happy.

I am almost done restoring this car...you name it and I have replaced it including re-upholstering the seats myself all the way down to the factory Delco CD player. That cd player was the find of a lifetime....last Nov I won it on EBAY for $180.00....it is brand new, never installed old stock item found on a shelf...it was hiding for 14 years.

Again, Thanx for the info.

supposedly deluxe cars such as caddies and such have motors or fan sets that move a little more air, i dunno how much truth thereis to that though, also you may have mouse nesting or leaves and crap in your box, or just restricted heater core, you may want to check into that if its not blowing as well as other F bodies same years,.
