Lowering UTH Temps

Here is a simple modification that can help reduce under-the-hood temps on you IROC-Z--For any one else running headers you may have noticed increased temps under the hood--By removing the insulation from the underside of the hood and unscrewing the louvers that are merely cosmetic--drill holes in the thin verticle sections of the louvers from the underside--then drill holes in the section of the hood that are covered by the louvers--I used a 1" hole saw--I dont actually have any numbers to show how much this has reduced my UTH temps-but i can visibly see heat coming from my now funtional louvers--this is not a visualy noticable mod from the outside of the car--WARNING--when washing the car-alot of water will enter the engine bay!--good luck!--TPI357

A better method would be to use ceramic coating or header wraps. Especially with a computer controlled car. The last thing you want is water in the engine compartment.

I would avoid header wraps for the street cars. They retain moisture and can cause premature rust on headers.

Ceramic coating, the way to go.
