A/C Clicking

when i turn on my a/c theres a loud clicking niose during the idle, but when im driving i quites down but starts back up at lights (really embarassing). i did a search and it said it could be low on freon but i put some in it around this time last year when i bought it ans it still blow good cold air. Could it be that i just need to put some oil in the compressor?

P.S dont give me bad news, its hot here in West Texas

Go find an A/C guy around town!

If it is still blowing cold it may be "cycling" because of having too much freon in it--if it is "rattling" that could be from it being on the way out.

Actually being a can low on r-12 or 134A will also cause it to cycle. It could be something like the pressure switch needs to be adjusted. Some cars have an adjustable switch. If it does need work a new compressor is not bad its like 249.99 or something. If you shop around you could probably get it for like 200. Im pulling my entire system and replacing 100% of it since it was unhooked for a couple of years.

If its just doing it when the car is not moving fast it could be the compressor clutch. You may be able to find one of them somewhere. They will act up a little when they start to go south at low rpm. Once you bring up the rpms it gets it spinning enough it will quit making noise. Remove the belt and spin the clutch see if it moves freely or if it is sticking or making any noise.
