problems with my AC

Im having some problems with my a/c on my 91 Z. It seems whenever I start the car, the AC compressor starts running, even though the Air isnt turned on. The blower inside the car runs nonstop as well. I also noticed that even though the AC wants to run constantly, I only have one fan running.....I thought when the AC is on, BOTH fans run...correct? This leads me to think I might have a bad relay for the coolant fans....is that a bad assumption? How could I check them? OR is the problem the controls inside the car (i.e the ac/heater selector)?? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....thanks in advance

Sorry I can't really help. My fan works when it wants to and apparetly gets p.o'd and quits.
Plus I bough my '86 Trans Am in January of '03 and I have yet to recharge my air conditioner... and I'm paying for it. I'm living off of a 2-65 air conditioning system.
2 windows down doing 65! (Second number may vary)
But I will look into it for you and see what I can find with a few of my friends around my home town.

The second fan will only engage when the high side pressure switch engages (which is at about 250 psi iirc)... The primary fan will come on regardless.. Is the a/c functional? (blows cold air)

No, I have to have it recharged, but that is going to require putting in R-134 and I do not think that is what was in there before. But during the winter when I tried to run the heater, hot air would come out, and the fan would work sometimes, but sometimes it wouldn't.
But in answer to your question, no the A/C is not working, but I know the fan doesn't work because of the heater. (it does )
