Diverter Valve. Is it really necessary?
I am considering re-doing the plumbing on my TPI car, and want to eliminate the four million hose clamps, and hopefully clean things up a bit. The question foremost in my mind at this point, is the diverter valve really required? Would making this a constant flow system make my A/C less effective?
There is just way too much plumbing in there.

Are you talking about the heater control valve? The diverter valve is part of the smog pump/AIR system. The heater valve is the item that is circled in the picture (don't pay attention to the words, just the item that's circled, it's the best picture I could find)

If it is, than yes, you can get rid of it. Your heat will still be as effective as it was when it was still installed, and no heat will come out of the vents when the AC is not on (those are 2 commonly asked questions about this). All you have to do is remove the hose that attaches to the hard heater hose line next to the passenger side wheelwell, connect the two other heater hoses together, and cap off the vacuum line. Here's a thread on how to do it. It's for TBI cars, but you'll get the idea:

Yes, heater control valve.
That's what I thought. My heater does not work as well as I think it should.... So I am trying to fix that as well. (as it is snowing/freezing rain here, this became much more important....)
Thanks for the info, and the links.
