I may be a season or two away from needing a new radiator so in the meantime, I am going to make sure the one I got is doing as much as it can. This spring, I want to do two things:
  • Throw in a new fan switch so my fan comes on earlier.
  • And then throw in a 170* stat.
Here is the fan switch I am looking at:

Rodney Dickman Fan switch

I can get a 170* stat pretty much anywhere I 'spose.

Is this a sound plan?

That fan switch should work, here's another place to get one, if you're interested: http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=3.138.944

I know you can get 160*, 180*, and 195* thermostats anywhere, but I'm not sure if you can get 170* thermostats easily, but I may be wrong.

Just in case you haven't seen this post before, here's a link to some switches you should be able to get locally:

Can I get to closed loop operation?

The thing I want to make sure of is that I can get to closed loop with a 170* and a new switch.

No problem, right?

Thanks for the links, gents!
