Cooling Fans NOT comming on

I have a '88 Trans Am GTA w/ dual cooling fans. Before I put her away for the winter (only a few weeks left - joy) the car got hot because the fans did not engage. I ran a wire from my battery and jumped the fans and they spun just fine - not a mechanical failure. I checked my fuses from the box, and they also look fine. I'm aware there may be a fan relay under the hood, the question i ask is where is this relay, and/or what could be some other reasons for the fans not to engage? Does anyone have any pictures of the fan relays? Can I pick them up at Autozone, or shall it be a trip to the boneyard. Thanks guys.

I know on '91 & '92 TPI's the relays are behind the brake booster, maybe the '90 model to (never owned a '90). As for the '88 model, I'm not sure. I've seen diagrams with relays close to the battery and next to the Radiator. You might check around them area's.

take the fan switch wire out of the connector on the head(pass side rear) and ground it. if the fans come on, the switch is bad.

make sure ignition is on, engine off...

Another way to make the fan come on is to turn on the a/c (make sure heat selection is set to cold) lol

new fan switch options

yes, you would have to have power to the fans.. so ignition would have to be in the "ON" position.
