Rad hoses pinching themselves shut..?

Noticed the other day that the top and bottom rad hoses looked like they were sucking themselves shut when i popped the hood to do some tinkering.I loosened the cap so the air evacuated the system and the hoses assumed they're normal shape. Is this normal?I just installed a rad out of a 88' LO3(reverse flow i think) into my Camaro that has a traditional flow cooling system, wondering if something isn't compatible for some reason because of that. The car hasn't been overheating or anything, actually,it runs cooler than ever(about 180-190deg.),but it's not really hot yet either.

When you shut down the engine and it starts cooling, the contraction is supposed to draw coolant from the overflow/reservoir. I'd guess you have a bad rad. cap, pinched hose, or it's stopped up at the bottom of the plastic overflow tank.

And the bottom hose should have a coiled wire spring in it to prevent collapse. If it doesn't....get one Pronto!!.

Most Aftermarket replacement hoses do not come with one. You have to pull the old one out of the OEM hose and re-use it. If it got turfed...try the Auto-Wreckers. You may be able to get the wire coil from Gates or Goodyear as well. Don't know if GM still carries them. Might come with a new GM hose as well. Can't remember.

21324 is the part number from CarQuest for a lower rad hose with the spring in it.
