Temp gauge has a mind of it own. HELP

Axle/Gears: 3.73
Temp gauge has a mind of it own. HELP

Ok here it is my temp gauge stoped working it now reades 0 but some days it goes crazy. I will go from 0 to 260 back and forth and do that for a long time then back to 0 does any one now how to fix this a need a temp gauge. the engine is a 87 formula with a 350 TPI

that sounds like you need a new temp sender

or has the wire come off the sender and the terminal bouncing around on something? if it's off, it'll read "0". if it hits a ground somewhere, it'll max out "260". check your wire. if that ain't it, change your senser.

Is the temp sender the one on the driver side beneath the exhaust manifold? I have the same exact problem.

does anyone have a picture of what the temp sender looks like. is it attached to a wire?
