doesn't get down to running temp...need suggestions

Well, it is an 85 2.8 FB. THe problem is that the running temp seems to be to high. Even when I am on the highway it still hovers at the middle 105C line (221F)......sometimes about a needle width below. Last year (this is the first driving it this year)it was always halfway or farther down to the next line. The problem is that nothing has changed:

THe rad, stat, water pump, heater core and heater lines are all new in the last 2 years. Coolant will only be 2 years old in September. I just finished doing the valve covers so the top end was all off but I filled the coolant back up. Timing is set right. Upper air dam is on the car (the piece below the rad) but the lower strip (that goes from wheel to wheel) is not.....but it has not been for 3 years and it always drops to proper temp, so that would not be an issue. Fan turns on and off.

Any ideas here? I really don't like how hot this thing is running. It will probably be really bad on a hot afternoon in traffic.

I know you just changed your stat but i would go get another one. seems like it getting stuck or you may have a air leak somewhere. Do you have any leaks?

I can't see any leaks anywhere. And the coolant doesn't seem to keep dropping.

Try temporarily installing a mechanical gauge to verify that the one in the cluster is correct.
