Dual fans not running
88 TPI 5.0. Dual fans. I just installed the temp switch from Mid America with a 160 thermo. The first time I drove the car, it ran nice and cool. I drove again last night and no fans, temp continued to rise. Fans run when jumed from the battery, but do not run from jumping the ALDL or with the A/C on. I've searched and read, and only wind up more confused. On this car, are my relays near the air filter or on the firewall? I'll start with that and then run the diagnosis suggestions from other threads. Also, where is the fusible link, and could it be bad and only affect the fan operation and not the other things it controls? The car runs great otherwise. Please help, if I get this problem solved, I'm going to buy a 4th gen to go with my 88. Thanks,
Kevin

On my 88, the relays are at the front of the car, on the pass side. 1 is on the fender near the coolant resevoir and the other is mounted right next to the radiator.
Jumper the green wire to ground on the relay with the ignition in the run position and see if that fan comes on, if not, then you have a relay problem or a power problem. Check voltages at the relay.

Thanks Zeph. Problem solved. It turned out to be some faulty wiring just after the fusible link by the battery (at the connector). I spliced in some new wires and connectors and the cars runs nice and cool. I'm finding that most of my issues are caused by wires or grounds on which 17 years of existence has taken its toll.
