Overheating normal running temp and electric fans

I think my firebird is overheating and need to know what the normal running temp is for a 305 V8. I live in the uk and it is usually pretty cool over hear but this summer when i bought the car it went up to the red line.I have changed the thermostat and this had helped dramatically. The car now bobbles between half way and 3 quarters up the temp gauge, but as this is my first V8 i dont know what normal temp should be.I also would like info on any aftermarket or stock electric fans i can get because the one that is fitted at the moment seems a bit too small. It only covers a quarter of the radiator.

Stock, the temp should be pointing straight down at 220* Fahrenheit.

my L98 350 runs at the same temp, and i was worried if it was too hot for the car, but thankfully i saw this topic..unless 220 is too hot for the 350

the stock fans kick in about 240deg so if u get it pass 240, just drive it on the highway so the air will cool it off.
