Elec Fan Doesnt Work Can I Use A Belt Fan
I have a question: im sick of the problems with eletric fan
on my 86 camaro z28.
Engine is:305 (F code)with TPI
My question is I have (2) 85 camaros with 305 (carb) and they both have belt fans to cool radiator.
On my 86 Z28 it looks like a belt fan could be mounted on pully with no problem.
1) By unhooking the eletric fan would that trigger my check engine light to come on?
2) Will belt fan work ok with TPI Setup without any conficts?
3)Does it Rob HP & Torque?
4)Would cooling be better were its running all the time and there are nice after market belt fans to replace stock?
I know i can run electric fan by a toggle switch but worring to turn it off and on is just a pain and my opion electic fans are just not reliable.
Thank You For Any Help.!!!

I didn't like the toggle switch for the same reason, so here's what I did (though I'm afraid the link won't answer most of your questions):

Thank you James C
I did see that on the message board.
the problem is the electric fan doesn't seem to come on at all even when i put my A/C on.
I didn't try powering up the fan directly to the batt to see if the fan was the problem yet.
If fan does power up would that be the problem of the relay?
where it doesnt come on with A\C (when i read on board it should) ?
This is the whole reason im wordering if a belt fan would work not having to deal with electric fan problems
(My Z28 only has 1 fan if that helps)

Guessing, I'd say you're correct: fan motor or relay.

Thank You Again JC
Today i replaced the relay, engine got up to about 220 degrees and the fan came on
And after really looking at what i would have to do to put a belt fan on would really be tuff do to A/C lines running across radiator wich mean i would have to take the whole A/C system out of the 85 camaros
so for now I guess im stuck with this electric fan
Thanks Again James C for all your help

No belt fans!
Dude, glad you got you electric fan working again. Just wanted to share, had the belt driven fan setup from the factory. I switched over to dual electric fans and now I have a cooler running car and you can definately feel the power gains by not having to spin that heavy fan and clutch setup or having to turn the fan all the time.
