Reverse or Standard Water Pump???

Im using a serp setup from an 89 305 car on my 88 camaro with a 98 model carbed 350. I bought the setup from a guy on here. I need to know what water pump I need. The pump that came with the serp appeared to be a standard rotation. Advance auto said it only called for a standard rotation. But that goes against what I think it should be. Im sure some of you guys have the same setup and can tell me. The serp belt goes over the water pump and then back down and under the crank pulley. Please help guys.

A serpentine belt setup uses a reverse rotation water pump. The belt goes around the water pump the opposite direction compared to a v-belt, and hence reverse rotation. How do you know your pump is not reverse rotation? You would have to remove the cover and compare the impeller to a standard rotation one to determine it.

We took apart the old pump and it appeared to match the standard style. one Advance store ended up giving us a reverse pump and a standard pump. Another advance store (with a guy that we know and trust) told us that which one was which. So right now we have a standard pump on the motor. I guess that is wrong then? Why would advance only have the standard pump listed? Im so confussed. To me it appeared to need a reverse flow pump as well. Since it turns opposite the crank.

The motor that is in the car had a reverse flow pump on it. Of course the people that poorly rigged it up had it turning like a standard pump.

Just to make sure it was a reverse flow what pump comes on a 98 model 5.7L? The motor came from a hertz rental truck. Anybody know?

Yes, that is wrong. Get a replacement pump for the 89 belt setup that you are using (assuming there are no differences on your 98 block). The 98 should have been a reverse rotation pump also (no v-belts in 98).
