my '82 LG4 fan and water pump are sitting on the ground. I can give you any measurements you need, let me know.
I'm about to start a new thread about replacing it...

how wide from tank seam to tank seam
Not sure which measurement you want here.
pic
arrow to arrow is 26 3/8" +/- 1/16"
*edit* there's a broom handle in the way, that's what the left red arrow points to, I actually measured all the way to the end of the fins, just like the right side.

does radiator sit in the shroud or in front of it
in shroud

That about cover it?

From my '83 service manual it states that the majority on non-A/C vehicles have a 4 blade fan. Then some models have a 5 blade variable pitch fan.The next paragrah states that some A/C equipped vehicles have a clutch fan.Now that's about as clear as mud LOL.To complicate things more, cars with heavy duty cooling will have a 7 blade clutch fan(mine is like this and the fan is 18" across). The flex fan vehicles would have to use some type of spacer to place the fan properly in the shroud. The fan is positioned inside the shroud typically with the blades width centered(half inside and half outside).I hope this helps more than it confuses.
