highest point in the system?

Hey folks,

I'm converting to an LT1 intake, and when doing the plumbing, I've found a spot that I really like for the remote thermostat housing. It'll provide a nice clean install, and the thermo mounts really nicely. Only problem is it'll end up being the highest point in the system, as it's about 1-2" higher than the radiator cap. I know this ain't a good thing, but I was thinking it might not be a deal breaker.

There are two ideas I've had. One is to just loosen the top coolant nipple to bleed the system--sort of like bleeding a master cylinder. This might allow about 20cc's worth of air to still stay at the top of the housing (I'm orienting it horizontally).

The other idea is to tap the top of the housing with say a 1/8" NPT tap, and use a plumbing fitting to close the hole off. Then I can use it like a brake bleeding screw to bleed off air when the systems been open.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this, is there any reason I might not know why this is a bad idea?

Thanks!

Re: highest point in the system?

I have the engine compartment torn apart, but I put my coolant reservoir back in to check, and it is higher than the thermostat. Will this negate the need to do any purging at the remote housing?

Thanks!

The overflow isn't part of the main fluid circulation.

Thanks. I was doing some searching on this last night, and found out that there's a low pressure side of a radiator? I always though the whole system was under pressure, but it looks like I was wrong.
