Heater Core

I tired to search but it is disabled ..Can anyone help me I believe I need to replace my heatercore? Its on a 92 rs. At times I get the sweet smell of coolant so I'm thinking it has to be bad. My problem is the car runs without a stat in it I tried 180 and it still overheats with a stat in a matter of 3 minutes of riding around. It seems to run 220 until I turn the heat on with the stat in then it starts to reach over by 260

doesnt sound like the heater core is ur problem. unless ur seeing actual coolant inside on the carpet indicating a leak.

My 92's heater core just went out the other day, did not leak enough to get the floor wet, but it was enough to fog up the inside of my windows really bad everytime i tried drove it, and smell real sweet in the car.
