Dual fan purpose??

I have a '91 RS with a single fan. I live in a hot climate area, wanting/going to convert to dual fans. My car does not have air conditioning though.... My question is, what was the purpose for installing dual fans, is it just for a/c cars??? or for the cars that had a 350 or options??? Also, I really dont want to wire in a toggle switch to the second fan and manually turn it on...It looks like then from what I am seeing is that my only other option is to wire it to come on with the first fan...Is this correct?? thanks for the help..

If you want to convert, it's honestly just easier to hotwire them to a switch. You could wire them to the temperature sensor if you wanted to spend some time doing it.

yeah usually the dual fans are needed for the a/c people.

what temps are you running now?

a single fan should get stuff done, i use a 180 t-stat and when at the track turn on my second fan to keep cool. my drivers fan hardly ever gets used now since i never get up to 227 or around that.

I have a 185 t/stat in the car. Seems to run cool when moving, but when the temp gets hot or in traffic, it doesnt get below half gauge....And the one fan never seems to turn off. I was just trying to get a more efficient fan set up.. the single fan just looks cheesy and barely effective.

I installed a duel fan setup on my 82 firebird and it definately helps to keep it cooler in traffic,If your having cooling problems run a lower temp thermostat maybe a 160 degree unit, also check radiator temp make sure its got good flow and not blocked

I planned on getting a better radiator anyway...The one in the car looks rediculously small for the car.. and when it gets 110+ outside, it just doesn't cut it.
