I just got a 383 stroker put together and running im sure i have plenty of coolant in it. I was wondering if i need to go to a 4 core radiator? i have both the dual fans hot wired to switch and operating when car is running. I realize that new motors runs a lil bit hot at first. Any suggestions?

 

Make sure the timing and fuel mixture is at least close.

The cooling system could be air bound, make sure to bleed it all out.

Does it overheat sitting still or when you're going down the road?

 

That and factory fans are kind of crappy to begin with...

But you won't need a 4 core.

 

Everytime ive checked the coolant level it has been full. The timing is set to 35 or 36 degrees total timing. It gets up to 220 pretty quick within 5 to 10 mins.

You have a shroud around the fans?

 

Initial timing, vacuum?
Upper hose getting "hard" from pressure?
Thermostat?
heater core? bypass?

 

like said above first check ur fuel and timing, if the initial and total timing is too far retarded it will get hot very quick.

I run a 2 core aluminum radiator, made by Wizard Radiators, and i run a 160 stat, car sits in traffic at 170* at idle in 90 degree heat, good luck!

 

If your running the stock dual electric fans and a 3 row radiator you should have a problem I would say your problem is in the timing or maybe a bad thermostat. My brother has a 383 in his s10 with a stock 2 row brass radiator and two fans and the thing will never go above 210.
