dart heads temp sensors don't fit hmmmm what to do

Hey guys I'm putting in a 350 and the fan switch and temp gauge sensor will not thread in to the dart heads. Is there an aftermarket sensor I can use and just wire it in to the facotry gauge ??

yeah It's going to be carbed...... just get a reducer and drop it in the intake? I was trying to keep wiring away from the top of the engine.

Depends on what kind of intake you have. Do you have any holes you could use in the back beside the dist? That would help hide the wiring.

My headers are getting ceramic coated so I don't think it would be an issue

I have cast iron Dart II Sportman heads on my engine. I am using off the shelf temp sensor and fan switch from Autozone or where ever. That was almost 9 years ago, so my memory is not completely clear, and hole size on the heads may have changed since then. You might try ones from a 70's model chevy. I say this because my other car at the time was a 73 chevelle and my dad had a 78 corvette, and I think the sensors from those matched up with the dart heads. A good strategy: go to an auto parts store, not Autozone or Pep Boys, but a store with a bunch of older guys working in it. They should be able to help and willing to do so. Or better yet, call Dart (or World Products or whoever they are these days) and tell them which product you have and what car it's going into.

The fan switch is no longer a concern for me since I've switch to a belt driven fan. Simple, functional, and dead reliable.

Older stock heads had a 1/2 NPT hole. Newer heads have a 3/8 NPT hole. Most aftermarket heads use the larger size because it's easier to put a smaller fitting into a bigger hole with a pipe bushing than it is to put a bigger sensor into a smaller hole.

I was remembering something allong those lines, so try second gen components.

the plugs were painted over and the square in it wasn't a 3/8's rachet so I just mached the sensor up to the plug but the diameter on the threads looked way to large on the sensor. Well when I got home last night I threw a pair of vice grips on it and when it started turning the paint gave way and well to make a long story short they're the right size.......

Depends: for me second gen parts worked fine because all my engine related stuff (ignition, fuel, and such things) are second gen technology. You're right if someone is running EFI and such things.

I can't imagine a single component that could possibly screw into a coolant port on the head that I'd want to find a second gen replacement part for.

Back from the dead!

I have the same issue. However when I use a pipe bushing the fan switch sticks out too far and hits the dipstick. So I'll looking for go for something that is a direct fit. Anyone have an idea of what part I should look for. Stock second gen stuff? Is there one that will turn on lower than stock?

I am using Dart Iron Eagle heads and have used both the Hypertech & Jet fan switches. They both fit fine and are available to turn on the fan at a lower temperature.

I am not using Dart heads. I am using TFS heads. Also I bet it has a lot to do with how the dipsticks mounts to the headers. My headers are SLP. So when I use the hypertech I do have clearance problems.
