Cooling issue, I know seach but !!!!!!!
I have a 92 camaro rs 305 tbi. I bought it used` from a family member and not sure really what all they did. There is a heater bypass valve some extra wires Im not sure what they go too. He supposedly rebuilt the engine and tranny. Def the tranny has a shift kit cause man it shifts hard in first. Before this engine he had a 400 sb he raced. Anyway i have the ever treaded overheating problem either in town or highway. It runs about 235-240.It has new hoses, new thermostat, new cap,new radiator and from what I can tell the fan comes on from the time I start the care. It also has a good from air dam. When my wife drives it she says it never goes above 200 and every timne I drive it it runs hot. Sometimes` I wonder what see is loooking at. Lol. I am also going by an aftermarket temp gauge. The guy at the parts store said to start the engine and mcheck engine flow. Dont know what Im looking for but it seemed even not to fast and not to slow. Some

Where does the gauge sit when the engine is off?? Does your car warm up in stop and go traffic, or when you just drive it.
There might be a chance that the guage sits right at 100 which is not right. It should be lower then the first notch.
Also, you gotta make sure your system is up to par.
Check to see if there are any leaks, check the cap, and check that air dam. Usually if you warm up over 220 that means that something in your cooling system is not up to par. I would check the air dam, and probably replace it with one from hawks. I would also replace the water pump, especially if this car has a lot of miles.
Check your bottom hose to see if its sucking in. Lastly replace that thermostat with 180 degree thermo and watch the heat stay down.
Let me know what you find out.
laters.
