Overheating/Did it have A/C?
Hey
I have a 85 iroc and i couldnt go more then 20 minutes without my temp reaching 145C (290F) i have replaced the thermostat, rad cap, all my filters then i found out my fan wasnt working so i picked one up at a autowrecker for 25$ and works perfect, but that only added like 5 minutes, so now in 25 i overheat, for some reason i dont think its my rad, but maybe my waterpump any other suggesttions?
Also my car has a pulley system for A/C (but no belt) does that mean my car had A/C? or does every car have the pulleys?

need some info from you
such as,
when does it over heat exactly
when it is slow speed orsitting
or cruising/driving ?
if it overheats low speed or stopped but not higher speeds cruising then its your fan/shroud or waterpump
if it overheats higher speeds cruising then its radiator, waterpump, shroud, or plugged up waterpassages in heads/block
also could be kinked radiator hose
it just al depends on when its overheating
and how do you know for sure that it is overheating anyways?

It overheats while driving, sitting it can idle for 30 min and temp not move, its once i start givin it some gas is when the temp gose up, uhh it ver heats when i get coolant boiling so much its pouring out of the cap and smoking and when i read my temp gauge and it says 300F.

How can i fix that? just take it to a shop? or is there a eZ do it yourself way?

i dont know, i bought it off a guy who said he hadnt driven it for 9 years... so my guess is at least not for 9 years, if not 21

Flush it all good, radiator too.
What was going on with it in the shop, they should have taken care of this.

All done but the hoses, they said the hoses are still in good condition, Oh it was at the shop because i got a new powersteering box and got new tires put on, so far i have gotten new starter, new fan, new tires, new powersteering box, all filters, new oil, new engine coolant uhhh maybe some other stuff but cant think of it right now.

Sitting for 9 years, the hoses are not in good condition. Hell weve had a mercedes sitting for 2.5 years, and the hoses are crap already!

Sitting for 9 years? Even soft and supple hoses will have some rot from the inside of them. Change them anyway, it'll cost you like $15.00 in parts. Have some one else chang them and it will depend on your labor rate.

I had the same problem last summer . My car would overheat bad. I had plenty of coolant and my fan did work. I tried all the tricks all these guys have said, and they probably helped in the long run, but the car still overheated bad. I ended up having to drop in a new radiator. And it solved the problem all together.

No worries. They are a bit on the expensive side but they work very, very well.

I have a 85 tpi and its running about 215 deg. I went to Auto zone and Advance auto. The rad is $117 for alum with plastic caps and like $114 for a copper one. I bought the alum one. I also bought a alum Weidan water pump for $114. I hope this helps my car. Its hard to turn off after it gets above 200 deg.

I bought a rebulit one for like $120, so i couldnt really go wrong, and it worked 
It still runs a little hot, like 115C range, but not like before at 150C

YAY!!! Glad it worked! Yeah it'll probably run around that. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Mine runs around 110C/230F. Your fan probably doesn't kick in till 105C/220F anyway. So, it's all good. And Congrats! :-D

My car runs around 185 deg on a 95 degree day, it has a stock iron waterpump and stock rad. Works fine to cool my 355 (421 HP, 387 RWHP).

ok guys i need some serious help! ok i drive a 87 firebird V6, its my everyday car. my car used to overheat until i put a new rad in. i drove it from oklahoma to missouri and it still was just fine. just a few days ago it started overheating again. so i said screw this and i replaced everything. thermostat, waterpump, rad, heater control valve, heatercore, hoses, i fushed it twice. and its still overheating. now its ok when its in idle but when i start going about 20-30 mph it overheats. the only thing i can think of is that when i had my old rad in the car my friend put some stopleak in it....but i flushed it....i dont have a clue in what to do now...plz help

And My fan is messed it doesnt spin when my hood is down?!? it like rests on the top of that fan housing and stops it from spinng, and i noticed that what i put a tiny bit of weight on it also. any ideas>?

yeah i posted right before that but it didnt work, my car is still overheating and yes i have a airdam, no my hood does Not sit flush its crooked, but even when my hood is up the fan will run the when i put like 2 pounds of pressure on the top of the housing the fan stops... yeah 220, mine runs at like 270+
The fan is surrouned by a round shroud. When you press on the shroud, it pushes against the outer rim of the fan which causes it to stop. I found that out when I swapped radiators in my 84 T/A. It's a stupid design, but the one we are stuck with none-the-less.
Ok, I just re-read all the posts for the third time. I think I've got it.
First thing I would do, is straiten out your hood. Get it adjusted (or do it yourself). You want to keep it from putting pressure on your fan shroud. (I am assuming you are using the stock single electic fan). Keeping the fan running is paramount.
The second thing I would do, since you have already replaced everything, is make sure that the area between the condenser and radiator is free of debris. Air flow is key.
The last thing I would do, and this was mentioned by Forshock 85TA, would be to check your timing to make sure it's set right and to make sure your fuel/air mixture is good. Running too lean or having your timing too far advanced can cause a severe over heating problem. You can either buy a timing light for $45.00 and fix your timing yourself, or take the thing in for a "tune up". Just make sure they set your timing. Probably run $100-$150.00 or so.
Any of you guys with more knowledge on this chime if you will. This guy needs some help!

yeah... the guy at teh shop said i should get a control switch for my fan, or how easy would it be to change it to a clutch fan or w/e the one that hooks on to the water pump i think it is....

I don't think you'll need a clutch fan. Jet Performance sells a product that turns your fan on earlier, and there are several companies that sell switches that you can wire in that will allow you to turn your fan on when you want it to be on. Or...in the alternative, you can wire it to just be on all the time.
