Summit Water Pump Question
I have an 84 Trans Am with a stock setup. I need a new water pump and from my searches on this board, it looks like I need a long water pump, standard rotation. Is that correct? Would this work:

yes its a long style waterpump.
if your car uses V belts, or the pump pulley touches the ribbed inside part of a serpentine belt, then you use a standard rotation pump.... standard meaning it turns the same direction as the crank.
if your car uses a serpentine belt and the pump pulley touches the smooth outside of the belt, you need a reverse rotation pump... reverse meaning it turns the opposite direction of the crank.
there were 3 belt styles used on thirdgens..
Vbelts.
surp belts that were still used as Vbelts, with everything running on the ribbed side.
surp belts running accessories on both sides of the belt, like modern cars today.
im not positive what style is on yours since its common for people to change them over the years, but what i said above is a good guide for determining the rotation of your pump.
all SBCs run the long style, except in corvettes, and im told some van applications... short WP setups are very rare outside of corvettes.
