air damn?

I just went through another air dam yesterday. Why do these tend to break so often. I was wondering For you people who have your car lowered or stock what did you do too keep it on or is there any other ideas for an air dam. thanks

Someone on the board has one fabbed out of metal, not sure if it's aluminum or steel.

It would seem they would be a bit more durable given thier location. Are you using used ones or replacement new versions? If used then they may already be weakened by impacts. They are very neccessary for cooling as we all know. One thing I did notice on my '83 Z28 is the air dam were redesigned and made larger after '83.I'm guessing ,on the Camaros, this was done for 2 reasons - Chevy found out the smaller air dam didn't provide enough air and the deeper GFX on the '85 and later cars would have made the early one useless. On a Firebird all the air supply, cooling and cool air for engine, comes from underneath.I know I scrape the one on mine from time to time and she's stock height.I don't know how they people with lowered cars keep them.I noticed on Ebay someone is selling a stainless version but that sems like it would require constant maintanace but I guess it might last longer.

I figured out who has the metal one: VenomX-87
It's fabbed out of stainless steel.

I've never had mine break, on either of my lowered 3rd gens. It might be time to evaluate your druving style, if you keep breaking them.

If ONE breaks, kinda OK...if you replace it, then break another one? It might be not slowing for bumps, speed bumps, dips in the road, etc.

Not even running autocross in a lowered 3rd gen, and snagging cones under the nose, did I ever manage to break an air dam.
