quick question?

I am thinking about getting an Air Dam for my 1985 Trans Am, it tends to run hot even after replacing the Radiator, water pump, thermostat, and a water wetter.

I don't have an air dam, and I don't know much about them either... Im not very good with cars at all actually.

So the question is, where do I get a good cheap used or new air dam?

Are certain ones better, or are they all pretty much the same?

Perhaps someone could give me a few answers?

Thanks

Travis

Re: quick question?

it really depends on what you want some aftermarket air dams can be better than others but me personally i would get one out of an old scrap yard for now or a used one just to see if this would solve your heating problem no need in spending to much for something that might not be the problem

Re: quick question?

well any air dam will work better than none. but the camaros and firebirds airdams are diffrent the firebirds are a lot longer and go from one side of the car to the other and the camaro ones are just basicly in the center right below the rad. also IIRC the later years had a slightly taller air damn then previous years because of the diffrent gfx maybe they work better maybe not, if you want something realy trick you can pick up a stainless steel camaro style one off ebay but its like $80 and if you drive your car that much i'm sure it would end up getting beat up after a while anyway but your choice

Re: quick question?

When I bought my car it didn't have an air dam, and it would get hot whenever it was moving for a long period of time without stopping. It's an 85 Trans Am, with the Aero package, and it should have an air dam that wraps around pretty much the entire front end.

I went to a junkyard and got the normal flat air dam from a Camaro, I removed the upper portion of the Aero package air dam, and the camaro one fit perfectly. Works perfectly, too. Cost me $10.

As long as there's something under the radiator to deflect air towards the rad, it'll work.

Re: quick question?

I've heard of people making them too out of strong aluminum and such. All you need is to shape it and drill the necessary and properly sized holes.
