electric fans wont work

I have an 85 iroc that came with the 305 tpi motor. I have owned the car for almost 5 years. In that time I have put a fresh 355 still with the tpi. and various other parts. I recently switched from the single electric fan to the dual electric fans from an 88 iroc. All worked well for a couple of months then one day driving down the highway they stopped working. I pulled over at the nearest gas station and checked the wires since I spliced into the single fan harness tied the dual fans together in the single fan wiring. All was well. So I turned the key to the run position with the engine off and the fans came back on, but as soon as i started the engine they shut back off. Now they don't come on at all. I can't find a relay for the fans underneath the hood and the only relay that looks like it is the fuel pump relay and it sits alone on the driver side of the firewall. The local parts store list an electric fan relay for my car, but I have no clue where else it would be. The fuse is still good also. any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
