89 IROC-Z, fans not turning on? Help

hi there,

my 89 IROC-Z has a 165'stat & fan switch, which was installed about 300 miles ago. I noiticed my temp gauge going to almost 220 & realized then that the dual fans are not turning on? i have the secondary fan tied in to 1st fan for additional cooling.

could it be a relay problem

i really dont want to see my mechanic yet, hopefully u all can provide some insight.

thanks again

It can either be the fan switch or the relay that went bad but first check the wiring before you start buying things. Look at a wiring diagrahm and make sure everything is hooked up properly.

Crazy 84 Z28,

thanks for the response. A friend works @ a local autozone & gave me the primary-radiator relay & it still didn't kick on.

So the next thing will be the fan switch? I had a 165 stat & fan switch installed last summer & hardly drive the car, so i hope its not the switch. Well ill just bring it back to the mechanic who installed it originally...

You can check to see if the switch is the cause by disconnecting the wire from the switch, and grounding it with the ignition on. This should cause the fan to come on.

hey eveyone, I got it fixed!

thanks to my mechanic, LOL.... The cause of the problem was the orange-connector wire on the fusible link (plastic connector was burnt on the inside & making no contact to the relay).

Thanks for everyones responses!

back to cruzi'n baby, top down~

Just wondering, where is the fusible link located?
