im having the same problem on my 357.... i nabbed a 3 or 4 core copper/brass radiator outta my dads 84 monte carlo.... its so big i had to wedge it in there i have two e-fans from advanced auto parts and they dont cool enough except when im drivin. i dont think it's a water flow problem because 1200 RPM cruisin im fine 180 with no T-stat and 150 at night.

I just need to know what kinda of fans to get... i was told a dual set up from a windstar would work.. any suggestions?

T.P.I.

Get them from a junkyard. I have them on mine and only 1 has to run to keep the car cool. Only on hot days after beating on the car does the second one turn on and when it does, BAM, temps fall flat on their face back down to 170*. Great fans, wired with a painless kit. You can probably get it all for $100 on ebay or something.

Re: looking for big *** radiator to cool a blown motor!!help me please!!!

I have built three supercharged cars. All of them in the 400 to 600 hp range. I will agree that they need extra cooling. The Fbody never did need anything exotic. On the 98 Viper with roots blower, stock engine. I ran the stock radiator with the Be Cool 14" steel fan that is advertised to pull 3200 cfm. This was coupled with and electric water pump and 195 degree thermostat. Don't go to cold on your thermostat because then the fluid in the radiator does not have time to cool. This car was marginal in traffic and on hot days it would have to take a break. This was partially due to lack of good tunning options and no room for proper fans and shrouds.

The 77 vette I built and still drive quite often had a similar setup as the viper for cooling, but the motor was different of course. It is a 383. Using the same fan with a shroud, and a Stewart EMP electric water pump coupled with a stewart stage one mechanical water pump and 195 degree thrmostat. I also used the stock radiator from a 91 camaro/firebird. This car can idle all day in traffic. One reason I think this is possible is because I can tune the heck out of it. This car is running EFI with a Weiand 172 roots blower. Using the Holley Commander I bring the timing forward at idle when the temp reaches 200. I also bring timing back with TPS position. So you do not get pinging under light throttle load. Another little helper is the WBO2. This allows me to run the car on the rich side at idle in warm tempratures also. This cools it down even though it doesn't smell all that great.

Finally the most important to the guys on this thread, is the 91 GTA with a 360 SBC and pro charger on it.

Stock Radiator
Stewart Stage 1 waterpump
Stock Pullies
Stock Fans
custom programming on 730 ECM
195 Thermostat

This car never ever overheats. If you can program your ECM you will be way ahead. Otherwise some sort of controller for the electric fans will be needed. I turn one fan on at 195 and off at 185. It doesn't run much when cruising, but usually pops on when in traffic or after a 1/4 mile pass. I have the second fan pop on at 205 and off at 190. This fan usually only come on during autocrossing events with many hot laps, or 95+ days with high humidity. I have slightly increased the timing at idle also to help things out. I have done nothing crazy with the fuel mixture as i do not have a WBO2 on this car, and the 730 does not do well when things get overly rich.

Thank you, yet another advocate for the stock TPI dual fan setup. IT works great. and is super cheap.

Found this in less than 30 seconds. Spend 5 minutes and imagine what you can find...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DUAL-...spagenameZWD1V

My motor makes 400 RWHP, so thats probably near 500 fly since I have a moser 12 and a big 6 speed as well as a steel thick fly.

My car CAN NOT over heat. the fans pull very hard.

No idea. Google search the CFM that they move. TPI fans are great I drove home from the dyno 1 hour away and didn't notice that my car was down more than 1/2 a gallon of coolant and it still never made it past 175*. The are great fans.

If you loose 1/2 gallon of coolant, in a hour, you've got problems. My cooling system has stayed full, for MONTHS. The last time I looked, was about 4 months ago, and she was full.

Re: looking for big *** radiator to cool a blown motor!!help me please!!!

What are you talking about? I think you are confused as to what I said or meant. The car was low 1/2 a gallon when I started the trip. Not that is lost 1/2 gallon. I am saying that I drove an hour all the while being 1/2 gallon low and I still didn't even get hot. Trying to show that the TPI fans work great. I am fully aware that you are not supposed to loose coolant when you drive. My car doesn't loose a drop, the dyno shop must have drained it for some reason and didn't fill it all the way back up when they were doing some tunning.

Re: looking for big *** radiator to cool a blown motor!!help me please!!!

It sounded like you got home, and realized you were down a half gallon, after driving 1 hour. There was no mention of the dyno draining coolant, or anything.
