Car: 91 Camaro RS

Overheating Problem
I've had my car for a while now, it's a 91 camaro RS, 5.0L and it's a manual.
I started noticing the engine over heats about 250 and a little higher. it suppose to be in the 210 as I know. well, we went and put new raditor fluid in. it had this brown stuff in the tank, I think it was dexcool or something... but we put the same stuff in it, but me and my dad wanted to put regular antifrieeze in it, would it hurt it?
anyway, we went and dump the old, and put new coolant in.
well, there's no leaks, no cracks in the raditor, the fluid stays the same.
we went and put a new thermastat in, didnt help.
some one we know said we're missing a scoop that suppose to go somewhere under the car or hood?
and it dont have the origanal air box with the hose and stuff.
the last car owner went and took that off and put on a Edelbrock racing air box...
any suggestions what it might be?
(our next plan might be the raditior is clogged up with gunk)

Sounds like you are talking about the air dams. They need to be there when you are driving to direct air to the radiator. They don`t help when at idle. Are you running hot at idle or at speed?

Sorry for the double post. Click on Search and type in "91 Camaro air dam photo" and you should get links to pictures of the air dams. There is an upper and lower on my `88 Iroc, they are still available new and used and they are cheap. Hope this helps.

I've looked under my car before alot, and I never seen it.
I think the last owner took it off.
theres alot of dips where I live. im sure the last owner probly broke it,
it doesnt over heat on idle, it goes back down to the origanal temp.
I can already seen the front bumper on my RS started to crack,
does it also make it worse when it has the bra on?
But I think that really helped, I'll see what my dad thinks, and we'll go buy a new one.

There are a lot of places to get the air dams, just check and see what works best for you. Most of the vendors that help sponsor this site have them. If you have to order one, ask about shipping charges. On my `88 Iroc, the lower air dam does not scrape over dips or speed bumps if I go slow. You should see cooler temps when you get them installed, good luck.

Here I go again, I don`t think of everything at the same time. My `88 Iroc has factory fog lights by the front grill. The area the lights are mounted in also direct air to the radiator through the upper air dam. If your bra covers these intakes, don`t use it or try to cut some holes in it to allow air flow. Sounds like you have your over-heating problems solved.
