Engine Cooling Fan Controller

Has anyone ever heard of a cooling fan controller that is on the pass side of the head on the engine? Do this have something to do with turning the fan on and off? BTW it is a 5.7 engine 87 Z28 IROC car. Need help My car is overheating and I noticed that the wire that goes to that part is brittle and is no longer attached to that part. Thanks

Can you explain how it works so I can understand. The problem is that my fan is not coming on when it reach the proper temp so I am thinking because my wire broke from the fan controller that may be the problem. Thanks

That's exactly the case: The wire isn't hooked up to the thermal switch in the head, and the switch is designed to turn the fan on at a certain temp.
