Radiator fan motor & ac blower motor burning up relays
Radiator fan motor & ac blower motor burning up relays
i have a 92 rs 305, i've had it for ten years & all parts were factory until my radiator fan motor threw the bearings a couple of years ago. I replaced it with a autozone lifetime radiator fan motor, & after about three months i started smelling something burning under the hood as i would park my car. come to find out the relay for the radiator fan motor & the wires that connect to the relay were melting & scorched. I took the radiator fan motor back to autozone & got another one, & it does the same thing. So i got some regular relays & wired the radiator fan motor directly to ground & thru a 10 gauge fuse holder with a 30 amp fuse & it blows & burns the fuses & holder every couple of months. when i had the original radiator fan motor i never had a fuse blown & i never had to replace the relay.
Also
Last year my a/c blower motor started knocking, so i went to autozone & got a lifetime replacement to replace the oem one. all of a sudden my blower motor stopped blowing the other day & u guessed it, the a/c blower relay was burnt to a crisp when i unplugged it. so i bought a new oem a/c blower motor relay, & within two weeks, the contacts are burnt to a crisp again.
my oem a/c blower motor lasted over fourteen years with no blown fuses or relays.
Has anyone else had any problems with autozone radiator fan motors & a/c blower motors burning up wiring harnesses & relays?
The originals lasted for thirteen & fourteen years, any suggetions?

Sounds like your system is running at too high of voltage. With the car running and components all on, check voltage across battery. If its over 15.5v, then you have a Voltage regulation problem. Since regulator is part of alternator, take off alternator and take it to parts store with tester and have it tested.

no, the voltage is fine, i have digital gauges & i also check it with my ohmmeter as well.
this only happened with those two autozone motors & not my amplifiers, tv or video, lites, or anything. as i said before, this didnt start happening until i replaced these two motors

Dont shop at autozone, autozone parts are worthless, and they only offer lifetime warranties because they know you will need them. Stop being cheap and buy quality products SOMEWHERE ELSE. I used to shop at autojunk a lot too , but after repeated failures and getting tired of fixing crap 3 or 4 times I stopped shopping there and havent had problems since.
