I have an 85 ta that when im idling or driving under 35 mph it slowly overheats, but when im going at higher speeds it fine. I just changed the coolant and thermastat, the heat works, so whats making it get to 260 degrees.

Sounds like the radiator fan is not operating properly. The rushing air is keeping the engine cool at speed. Do you have an electric fan or clutch belt-driven fan?

I had the same problem on my 86 camaro's electric fan, it was the temperature sensor that went bad. This may not be your problem, but it could be a place to look.
